The Cat and the Fiddle

Some days your mind works overtime and links your past with the present to thoughts about the future. I was thinking how life is similar to one of my favourite nursery rhymes "The Cat and the Fiddle" - you never know what comes next...but whatever does come, always fits in somehow.
For those who are not familiar with the rhyme:

heyy diddle diddle
the cat and the fiddle
the cow jumped over the moon
the little dog laughed
to see such sport
and the dish ran away with the spoon.

The Phoenix in you

I was in Chicago last weekend. It was my first time and I had already been provided enough opinions to form a few preconceived notions. A lot of my friends said that Chicago is what Toronto will be when it "grows up" since there are several similarities. However, to me, Chicago was far more beautiful than Toronto, with a very different vibe. I think maybe because it was given a second chance, albeit morbidly, with the great Chicago fire of 1871. The city was re-planned well and emerged stronger and more prosperous.

It made me think of all the times in my life I was given second chances and had to burn down the past, so to speak, to come out newer, younger and stronger. Funny thing is that just before something positive happens, things are often going horribly wrong. Maybe it is the universe's way of balancing the good with the bad.

The point of my writing this blog is to try and make people think less risk-averse. I think there are many dormant parts of our psyche that can only be brought to life if you want them to. So if you think about it, a lot of people only activate those parts that have conformed to ideas floated about by family, friends, and society in general.

As an example, I recently joined a belly dancing class. Someone asked me what the point of joining this class would be. My answer was that not everything that you do should have a point. You have to do things for the pure pleasure of exploring what you might like and what you might not. To try and experience something new just for the sake of it. To awaken a part of your life that you did not even know existed.

So do this: Within the realm of your various responsibilities, commitments etc. the next time a crazy thought crosses your mind, write it down (so that you do not forget) and try and act on it. Who knows where it might take you?

Marco

Today would have been Marco's 13th birthday, but he passed away ten days ago. I guess if you've never had a pet, it might be hard to understand this...but the two days that followed were filled with such overwhelming sadness... that sometimes I thought I might lose my mind.
However, like everything else, time heals all. So, I thought of writing a pome for Marco in the hope that he is in a better place... Happy Birthday Marco baby.

Little baby Marco
We got him when I was fifteen
the size of my palm, droopy ears
cutest pup I'd ever seen

he gained notoriety pretty fast
around our neighbourhood
for being the dog with the bite and bark
not afraid to use either of the two

...but he also had a lot of love
to give and ask from you
and if you hung around him enough
he would make you as loving too

and wherever he is now
I am sure he's still the same
one day at my time's end
I hope I will see him again.
